Streetscape Project Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. Where is the streetscape project going to be
built?
- The streetscape project will be constructed on:
- East Broad St. (Main to Market)
- Lincoln Ave (Main to Market)
- S. Main St. (Broad to Lincoln)
- 2. What will be constructed?
- The streetscape project will entail the following activities:
- Burying all overhead utility lines
- Installing street trees
- Installing vintage pedestrian lights
- Installing a two-foot strip of brick pavers at the curb line and at the
crosswalks
- New curb and sidewalks
- 3. What type of trees will be installed?
- Halka Zelkova (Elm Tree Family). The tree is hardy in urban
environments. It grows in a vase-like fashion.
- 4. What type of vintage lights will be installed?
- The lights are the same type as currently installed in Centennial
Park, Electric Plant Park and Heather Meadows Development.
- 5. How and where will my current overhead utility connections
be
attached and located?
- On most properties the overhead utility connections (electric,
cable and telephone) will be buried. All the utilities will be placed in a trench that will come across your property. A utility easement will need to be signed to allow access to your property.
- 6. Will having underground utility connections costs me
anything?
- No.
- 7. What will happen to the existing overhead electric
connections on
my house?
- They can be removed if the property owner desires.
- 8. Who is responsible for any damage caused during any phase
of the
project?
- If the contractor caused the damage, the contractor will be
responsible for repairing the damage. A preconstruction video will be shot prior to any construction.
- 9. How much will the streetscape project cost?
- The total projects estimated cost is $2.6 million. Specific costs
of the project will be known after the project is bid. The project is being bid as three (3) projects: E. Broad St., Lincoln Ave. and S. Main St. Sections may be delayed if the bids are above the projected costs.
- 10. Who is paying for the project?
- Hatfield Borough is paying for the project. Hatfield Borough will be borrowing money through the Delaware Regional Finance Authority to finance the project. Also, Hatfield Borough has received $400,000 in Montgomery County Community Revitalization Grant Funds for the project.
- 11. Will my taxes be increased to pay for the project?
- No.
- 12. When will the project start?
- Late summer
- 13. How long will the project take to complete?
- The project could take up to 18 months to complete.
- 14. Will all the project areas be under construction at the
same time?
- No. Only one section will be under construction at a time.
- 15. Will the roads be closed during construction?
- The roads will remain open during construction. If a road closing
is necessary it will be as short a duration a possible. Property owners will be notified at least three (3) days prior to any road closing. All driveways will be accessible during the project.
