Spring 2025 Minute with the Mayor

To kick off my Spring communication with you, I'd like to start with a stanza of a poem entitled “Harbinger of Spring” by our very own Borough resident, Jim Flannery:

"A crocus, is that a crocus in my flower bed? A beautiful purple and yellow, tiny little flower rearing its lovely head while in the midst of still lingering snow? How wonderful, this harbinger of spring, this announcement of new life, of hope, of promise as this ray of beauty suddenly appears." Nice work, Jim!

Like the little crocus, we are emerging from the winter season, hopefully filled with joy and promise! Many events are scheduled in the Borough that will make winter seem like a distant memory. Our Earth Day events will take place during the week of April 21-25. These include Trivia on Facebook, coloring contests, and a Goodie Bag giveaway for kids (while supplies last). Recycling information will also be available at the Borough Office. So, “Be the change you wish to see in this world” by participating in this event and helping to teach the next generation the importance of being good stewards of our planet.

When you visit the Borough Office to pay your utility bills, be sure to check out the lending library located just outside the doors. This convenient option allows you to pick up new books to read, so feel free to take a book and share a book.

Our Spring Town Hall will be held on May 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Borough Hall. The agenda will include updates on ongoing projects and some options for dealing with the Heather Meadows pond situation. Please join us in person or via live stream; the Town Hall is our way of communicating with our residents while gathering your feedback on our proposals.

This summer, we have several exciting events planned, including Founders Day on Saturday, June 14, and Movie in the Park on August 21. Both events will take place in Centennial Park. Check our social media pages for more details.

As always, I encourage you to check on your elderly neighbors to see how they are doing and if they need assistance. Many residents no longer drive and may struggle to shop for groceries, attend church, or keep doctor's appointments. If you know someone who might need help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them. They will appreciate your support, and the satisfaction you’ll feel is invaluable.

My office hours are now on the 15th of each month or the last business day before the 15th. I will be in the building lobby, so stop by for a quick chat. I will happily share with you the complete poem “Harbinger of Spring” by our neighbor, Jim Flannery.
Take care.
